Walk around the high school and once around the track, stretch
Workout
3 rounds at the track
-run a mile
-walk a lap
Results
Ran 3 miles and walked 1. The timer either didn't start or reset during the 1st mile, so I didn't get my time on it. For the 2nd and 3rd mile, I clocked in at 9:38 and 9:54 respectively.
For the 2nd and 3rd mile, I pushed hard on the last lap and sprinted the last 100.
Definitely something I want to keep up with this summer and eventually migrate from the track to the roads...
Great job!! That's impressive time considering you don't usually run, good for you! How do you feel? I should ask that tomorrow. You will most definitely run into some pains and kinks when you first start, but hopefully it won't be too bad on you. Way to go bro!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I'm a little sore today, but nothing I can't tolerate. If I didn't work out in general, I'm pretty sure I'd be in a lot more pain ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty happy with those times too. It's definitely a different kind of endurance needed than with my kb/bodyweight workouts...but I think they'll compliment each other well.
The other thing I noticed is how running makes me completely aware of all of that excess fat I'm carrying around...I can feel it with every step. that's motivation in and of itself
Well it definitely helps adding a little cardio into your routine. Just as it's helped me adding a little weight training into mine. Takes time to get used to everything, but you may end up loving it like I do! Oh yeah, you can most definitely feel all that jiggling when you run =)
ReplyDeleteMy workouts are already pretty heavy in cardio...just a different kind. If you swing a bell for a tabata sequence (20s work/10 s rest, for 4 min), you're heart rate will be up there. it's not like benching 3 sets of 10 or doing tricep pulldowns...much more intense.
ReplyDeleteBut running provides that cardio needed for long distance endurance...which I don't have a whole lot of right now. And just in general, it's very rewarding and fun. I really enjoyed running on the road (sidewalk) today - scenery changing, other people running, the smell of someone bbq'ing...so much nicer than circling the track. And there is something freeing about it.
I might hit up that fleet feet tomorrow...gotta check on the finances first though
